Grow Your Vision

Laura's Shelter House Inc will cooperate with local elected officials, business owners and Northampton residents to create a sustainable, secure and environmentally sound "Tiny Home Community" for Northampton's Homeless Community. We embark on this effort after months of our outreach with the local homeless community. This effort is designed to alleviate and eventually eliminate the conditions which have led to the necessity of Northampton's homeless to sleep in the downtown areas of Northampton overnight. We believe that by positioning our homeless in a tiny home community that is well managed, secure and clean would be a humane solution to the plight of our poor, as well as go far to prevent visitors to Northampton from seeing our most vulnerable residents camped out in vacant store fronts downtown.

About

A Bit of Background

Formed in Worcester Massachusetts in 2001 Laura's Shelter House began with the purchase and renovation of our shelter building located at 41 Columbia Street in Worcester, Massachusetts. The property a former two story two family structure contained two bedrooms on each floor with two full baths and two kitchens. Located on Columbia Street a neighborhood of two and three family homes, Columbia Street is a vibrant neighborhood of low to middle class families nestled just off of the Kelly Square area of downtown Worcester. Located a short distance from St John's Church, a major food pantry and feeding location for the Homeless and near homeless in the City of Worcester. Laura's Shelter House after renovation which included the removal of the upstairs kitchen, contained eight large sized rooms which easily and comfortably could provide a comfortable living space for couples and families with one or two small children.

Our Mission

Laura's Shelter House has relocated to Northampton, Massachusetts after over twenty years of service to the homeless population of Worcester and it's surrounding towns. Upon arriving in Northampton our staff reached out to Congressman Mc'Govern"s Office and informed his staff of our recent relocation. His staff assured us that they would do whatever they could to help us in assisting the homeless population in Northampton and it's surrounding areas. Since arriving in Northampton, our staff has gone out and made contact with various  individuals in the homeless community to get their perspective on what services are most lacking in the area. Our fact finding surveys in the City of Northampton and surrounding areas has led us to determine that tiny mobile home communities in the City as well as surrounding areas is the very best answer to the problems currently affecting the local homeless community
